This is a work-in-progress article that will help shed the light on BadPups global operations, as well as the adult industry in general. It’s currently published as even if unfinished, we want more people to understand what the areas we serve face and how we make things work (and provide much of it for free at our own expense), and what it’s like in our [the adult] industry.
This information is directed at anyone who has used OnlyFans, PornHub, XVideos, and other platforms, or wants to know about how the adult industry operates and the challenges that face those who want to improve the space to be safer, better, more welcoming, and stable for sex workers / porn content creators, and others involved in the adult space.
About BadPups
BadPups is the first pup/LGBTQ+ owned and run puppy play porn video site – for pups, by pups. Already we are classified under several minorities: LGBTQ+, kink/fetish. Our platform hosts community created porn videos and content, by our community – people like you. We welcome all backgrounds, identities, beliefs, orientations, genders, sexualities, etc. There is less funding, resources, and places for minorities such as LGBTQ+ persons, people of color, and the kink/fetish space (most tends to be hetrosexual focused in the adult industry). We run our platform off donations, the funding of our staff (and our founders), and the work and tireless effort of our volunteer staff. There are no grants for what we do. We do what we do for the better of our community because we believe in what we do – we are passionate, we care, and we want our love for our community to help make it better. We own our own platform and are not subject to the rules of social media platforms. Our community has a safe place to upload their content without massive compression (making a video lower quality like on social media) and the place they upload to is owned by people like them, with their best interests in mind.
- You can learn more about BadPups – the good of what we do, how we help the pup/LGBTQ+ community and more on our About page
BadPups as of the time of writing, Feb 2024, does not make a profit. Income is from our founder and from donations all to cover platform costs. If you’d like to help us out, check out our Support BadPups page.
Successes
- BadPups is the first pup and LGBTQ+ owned and run adult video site, for the same community that owns BadPups (LGBTQ+ / pups / people of color / etc)
- We own the majority of our infrastructure, so we have very few restrictions – excluding handling payments (more on that in our challenges section below). We are not controlled by shareholders, or other companies
- BadPups is welcomed by the community we serve, and many really appreciate what we do:
- We provide a home for pups, handlers, kinsters, pet play, content creators, and more
- One that’s not subject to the rules and restrictions and ever changing and tightening of other platforms (e.g. social media, PornHub, OnlyFans, etc).
- One that’s not compressing videos to lower their quality, or having really short durations (e.g. Twitter video uploads)
- Pups, pet players, and our niche kink/sectors now have their own video site, just for us
- We receive many offers of people wanting to help BadPups as they believe in what we do and why we exist. Many may not have the money, but can help in other ways with their skills, talents, support, and voices.
- We are community focused – unlike giant companies that are driven by profit, we implement our community’s feedback and keep things in the best interests of our community (as much as possible).
- We help to promote and boost our community both on and off of our site – more on our About page
- We offer free premium services for the good of the community – more on our About page. One example is our Custom BlueSky Handles service
- BadPups has doubled or greater in our site users, visitors, video views, content, and other metrics each month.
Challenges
Handling Payment Services – Site Finances / Content Creator Income
There’s a long history of issues with the banking and finance industry not welcoming adult industry customers (porn sites, sex workers, sex toy sellers, etc), and making it more challenging or completely blocking them out from their services. We’ve written about some of it over on our Donate to BadPups page. Sites like PornHub, OnlyFans, and others are all at the mercy of payment processors like MasterCard, Visa, PayPal, etc. There’s a history of these platforms having issues, restricting adult content/services, or at times, disallowing payments to be processed.
- History of OnlyFans payment processing issues and disallowing adult content creators
- PornHub at some points struggled to keep card payment services for their platform and had to primarily accept crypto instead (though for various reasons) for a while.
In short: the adult industry deals with money, and money is handled by payment processors like Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, etc. If you have tried using them for porn / adult videos (i.e. you take payments for videos you make for people), you’d know they will most likely block/ban you. These companies do not like the adult industry, and make it harder to operate it.
Content Hosting and Site Infrastructure
Similar to the payment issues section above, this section is about how most web hosting companies, content/video hosts, and other digital infrastructure (marketing, social media, shopping, etc) mostly or completely disallow adult/explicit content. BadPups meets the most prohibition with BadPups being an adult pornographic video website – many companies, services, and organisations that provide services to the rest of the world do not allow porn sites to work with them. This makes it more of a challenge, and often raises costs in finding providers that can and other restrictions.
